Five For Friday- Healthy Foods

Its Five For Friday.  YEAH.  This link up is sponsored by the DC area bloggers Cynthia at You Signed Up For What?! and Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC , and Mar from Mar On The Run.  The topic for this link up is  food and drink

If anyone follows me on instagram than you saw the pictures of me with Cameron Diaz.  Below is my instagram feed from the meet and greet with her.  She was  there promoting her new book “The Longevity Book”

#camerondiaz and I.

In the book she outlines the  five pillars of well being and living a long happy healthy life:

1.  Eat well

2. move your body

3.  Getting a good nights sleep,

4.  Relieve stress,

5. Connecting with the ones we love.

So of the five pillars of wellbeing and living a  healthy life, eating healthy is the most important to her

So I want to talk about five healthy foods today

5 Healthy Foods

green-beans-healthy foods

1. Green Beans

Filling up on green beans, and other high-fiber foods, can help prevent weight gain or better yet promote weight loss.  In The Journal of Nutrition. Researchers found that women who increased their fiber intake generally lost weight while women who decreased the fiber in their diets gained. What they found was women who ate 8 grams for every 1,000 calories lost about 4 1/2 pounds over the course of the study. Try it for yourself, raspberries, chickpeas and strawberries are other great sources of fiber

salmon healthy foods

2. Salmon

I know we have all heard the praises of salmon, but the omega-3 fatty acids in oily fish, can boost your skin’s defenses against UV damage.    Apparently researchers found that those who ate just over  5 ounces of omega-3-rich fish each week decreased the development of precancerous skin lesions by almost 30 percent. Scientists think the omega-3s act as a shield, protecting cell walls from free-radical damage.  So not only should we lather up our skin with suntan lotion before we try to catch some rays but we should also make sure we eat some omega- 3 rich fish

blueberry-healthy foods

3. Blueberries

Eating just under a cup of mixed berries (such as red raspberries, strawberries, blueberries) is known to be high in antioxidants, but did you know that  they have also been associated with increasing levels of “good” HDL cholesterol and lowered blood pressure?  So not only do berries help fight cancer but they help fight heart disease

watermelon-healthy foods

4. Watermelon

This might surprise some people.  As you know watermelon is full of water, which in retrun helps keep you satisfied on fewer calories. Did you know that  watermelon is not only  a good source of vitamin C, but is 92%?   And the red variety  has lycopene, an antioxidant that may help protect against heart disease and some types of cancer.

wine-glass-healthy foods

I saved the best for last.  Yes you saw right wine.  Wine has Resveratrol, a  famous antioxidant, that is found in grape skin, stops fat storage. Studies show that moderate wine drinkers have narrower waists and less belly fat than liquor drinkers. Downing a glass can boost your calorie burn for a good 90 minutes.  So down that glass of wine at night but make sure it is only one 🙂

  1. I’m a fan of everything you mentioned except green beans. I wish I loved them, but sadly they are not high on my list of vegetables. I leaned something new about watermelon and can’t wait for them to arrive in the store this summer.

  2. Funny story,,, when I was in my twenties I worked at an off Broadway theatre with professional actors and one of them told me that I looked like Cameron Diaz and then in the same breath he adds “she’s really old looking”. I don’t know if that was a compliment or a bash…lol -M

    1. wow you did some broadway work. I didn’t know you were an actress. I the Cameron Diaz is beautiful, so I would have taken it as a compliment

    1. Wendy, that’s ok. We will let it slide this time LOL 🙂 I am sure you burn enough calories that you really do not need to worry about that

    1. I have to admit that watermelon really is not my favorite fruit either. I really love berries and I feel that they are better for you than watermelon any way. Thanks for reading
