Hampshire Registration Service is an innovative and forward-thinking organisation, currently delivering in excess of 6,000 birth registrations, 9,000 death registrations, 10,500 notices of marriage / civil partnership and 5,500 ceremonies each year.

You will be committed to delivering a high profile, front line, customer focused service. You will line manage a team of Registration Officers and support staff in multiple locations across the North of the region.

The day to day work of the team involves the registration of births, deaths, notices of marriage / civil partnership and the provision of statutory and non-

statutory ceremonies. Registration Technical Training is available to equip you with the appropriate knowledge. You will be responsible for leading and maintaining the high standards in relation to these areas.

Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills and a can do’ attitude are essential for this exciting role

Job Purpose :

Managing a team of approximately 10-15 Registration Officers and support staff across a geographically spread area.

Role Responsibilities :

Contribute to the provision of front-line registration services by :

  • Responsibility for recruitment and selection processes
  • Provide training, motivation and support to ensure the legality and quality of day to day work, providing a consistently high standard of customer service
  • Providing management reports and contributing to service plans as required
  • Statutory responsibility for the provision of registration services
  • Undertaking technical and service required specialisms / projects to support the wider registration service developments as required
  • Managing delivery of non-statutory services
  • Managing customer expectations, enquiries and complaints through to conclusion
  • Provide cover for Area Manager / s in their absence
  • Participating in weekend standby roster giving advice and support to busy ceremony teams
  • Undertake the multi skilled role of a Registration Officer, if required
  • Undertake Approved Venue inspections and monitor licensing processes
  • Complete the National Accredited Programme for Registration Officers
  • Undertaking the role of Assessor for the National Accredited Programme for Registration Officers in Hampshire and beyond as required

  • A high standard of general education (minimum A level or equivalent)
  • Full flexibility and ability to work across multiple locations, providing cover as necessary

  • Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience :

  • Diploma in Management Studies or equivalent
  • National Accreditation Programme for Registration Officers
  • Operational knowledge of broad range of registration services
  • Awareness of corporate responsibilities regarding Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity, Data Protection and Performance Management Policies

    The post holder will be based in the Basingstoke Register Office, predominantly looking after the North Offices but will be working across all of the other registration areas as required.
